2016 Estate Vineyard

The J. Christopher winery and our estate vineyard, Appassionata, are located in the Chehalem Mountains AVA and was planted in 2010. The soil in this AVA is amazing, encompassing everything from sedimentary sea beds to red volcanic soils to glacial sediment. In our own vineyard, Appassionata, we have counted 11 different soil types. With the variations in aspect and soil, we have at least 10 or 12 distinctly different terroir possibilities to work with. It's a really interesting piece of property geologically, which makes it fascinating viticulturally as well. This is just our second vintage bottled from the estate.

Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains Estate Vineyard 2016
92 points | $65 | 130 cases made | Red

Glimmering red. Spice-laced red berry, cherry and floral pastille scents take on a smoky mineral quality with air. Shows a hint of musky earth on the palate, which offers sweet red/blue fruit, lavender flavors and a touch of allspice. Gains energy with air and repeats the floral note, carrying it through an impressively long, gently tannic finish.
