2018 Estate Single Barrel Block 5
This bottling is sourced from Block 5 in our estate Appassionata vineyard, which surrounds the winery. We have a great diversity of soil types and clones, giving us many options for the blending palette. The 2018 growing season was the eighth hottest on record, but it was not as hot as thre previous two years, and there were no extreme temperature spikes. This made for a balanced growing season with much less heat stress. The wines are characterized by fruit that is rich and dense, but not overripe, supported by juicy acidity and fine, ripe tannins.

Just two barrels of this limited-production were wine produced. Bright, tart red-berry fruits come with a salty tang, showing excellent focus and length. Tuck this away for another couple of years and it should blossom. Drink from 2022. —P.G.

93 | J. Christopher 2017 Chehalem Mountains Estate Pinot Noir
A tiny production from a south-facing vineyard overlooking the J. Christopher winery, this pinot noir leads with lovely scents of cinnamon, mace and strawberry. The wine is succulent and supple, its spiciness lingering with its dusty tannins, leaving a lasting impression of gentleness. —P.J.C. (56 cases)
